Alison Sutcliffe was born in Toronto in 1909. She studied dance in England, Germany and the United States with dancers such as Mikhail Fokine, Kurt Jooss, Mary Wigman, Martha Graham, and others. From 1927-1929 she danced with the Metropolitan Opera Ballet in New York City. She returned to Toronto in 1930 and began teaching at the DaCosta Studio and then the Toronto Conservatory of Music. She was the Director of Dance at Hart House Theatre throughout the 1930s. During the Great Depression she collaborated with artists such as Fred Coates, Bettina Byers, Edgar Stone, Herman Voaden, Dorothy Goulding, Lorna Sheard, Ernest MacMillan, and many other artists. / Alison Sutcliffe est née à Toronto en 1909. Elle a étudié la danse en Angleterre, en Allemagne et aux États-Unis auprès de danseurs tels que Mikhail Fokine, Kurt Jooss, Mary Wigman, Martha Graham et d'autres.
