1 Tutu from The National Ballet of Canada's production of Erik Bruhn's "Swan Lake," c. 1966. Character: Odile/black swan. Dancers: Suzanne Farrell, Nadia Potts. Designer: Desmond Heeley. On April 27, 1970, Suzanne Farrell was wearing this tutu when she injured her knee performing the 32 fouetté turns in the third act and had to be carried off stage while her partner, Hazaros Surmeyan, improvised the rest of the scene. Nadia Potts, then a corps du ballet member, learned the last act pas de deux in 15 minutes and assumed the role. A Globe and Mail reporter photographed the performance and it was well documented. Later, the tutu was retired from performance and given to Nadia as a rehearsal tutu.
