" Although she has made her reputation on the “ showy , " modern jazz pieces she has danced and choreographed on Canadian television shows , she says she doesn't like them much , and she doesn't like working on television . LOOKED FUNNY She would much rather dance Swan Lake with a com pany , like she did as a young student with Sadler's Wells in England . “ One advantage of being so small was that I always had single parts . I looked funny in a chorus with bigger girls . " " But television is too mech anical . I always have to think what camera to smile at and whether I am standing on the right marks . It takes a lot of the spontaneity out of it . And we can never do the same thing twice . I can remember doing Swan Lake 598 times and still loving it . “ ' I'm happy to be back in Winnipeg . I came just because they asked me . " Canada's most successful television dancer , who says she is " really too small for anything in the world , " has come to Winnipeg to take the lead role in the Royal Winni peg Ballet's Christmas pres entation , Land of Snow . Carlu Carter is back in Win nipeg for the first time since she left the RWB company for Toronto 10 years ago . Today , she dances on the Wayne and Shuster Show , and is almost the only Canadian television dancer with a regular job . The diminutive ( a scant five feet ) dancer will appear in Land of Snow with Richard Rutherford , Dec. 28 and 29 . FIRE STRUCK Miss Carter was a leading dancer with the RWB until the company was disbanded after a disastrous fire in 1954 . The opportunity of employ ment in television attracted her to Toronto , and she has stayed in television ever since , first with her own group the Carlu Carter Trio and now with partner Bill Mc Grath . Miss Carter just returned to Toronto this year after three highly successful years Australian variety television . “ I left because I was get ting over - exposed . ” Over - exposure is certain ly no danger to a dancer in Canadian television , says Miss Carter . The variety shows and the dancers are starving for work . MONEY IS GOOD If they are working how ever , the money for a dancer in television is much better than for a stage ballerina , - on she says . Dancing for 28 years -- since she was two and a half years old , Miss Carter is thinking of quitting . " I've tried acting instead , but I am a terrible actress .
