Ballet Club Presentation “ Triumphant ” Triumphant is the word to de scribe the impression that the Win nipeg Ballet club made on an audi ence that almost packed the Play house theatre , Friday night , for the second major production of an or ganization that has put itself right into the forefront of the city's theatrical scene . Curtain call after curtain call was the reward for a talented group of young people who work together with an enthusiasm that is heartwarming to see . It is a glowing example of what an ama teur group can accomplish under the firm guidance of a professional -in this case , Gweneth Lloyd . The performance will be repeated to night at 8.45 . Altogether it was the kind of a show that tempts one to spill adjec tives . From the standpoint of danc ing , stage setting and costuming it left little to desire . There was also a hard - working orchestra under the direction of Geoffrey Waddington . Three ballets were presented Backstage , 1897 , danced to Glaz cunow's Scenes de Ballet ; Les Pre ludes , an interpretation of the Liszt score ; and Triple Alliance , a comedy in three acts . The choreography was in each case by Miss Lloyd , with Betty Hay supplying scenarios . Backstage , 1897 , proved to be a pi quant affair , with comic overtones . The audience was treated to a be hind - the - scenes glimpse of a ballet in the making . From the group of gay coryphees , like ethereal ponies in their prancing movements , through the bored stage hands , the haughty ballerina , the coy maitre de ballet and the impetuous bal letomanes , the performance was sparkling . The whole thing had a bewitching formal pattern . Fine Performances Once she got over some initial nervousness , Patricia Litchfield proved herself a fine artist . Paddy Stone , who took the role of a male dancer , and was also prominent in the other ballets , has possibly the most talent of any in the group . Some of his work was breath - tak ing , Friday night , but he must learn not to let mannerisms take the place of manner . Jeanne McKenzie also shone in all three ballets . She is a graceful imaginative performer . BALLET WITH 40 - PCE . ORCHESTRA conducted by GEOFFREY WADDINGTON Playhouse Theatre TONIGHT , 8.45 P.M. Box Office at Playhouse Theatre PHONE 95 095
