NIPEG FREE PRESS , TU Ballet Club Presentation Is Applauded It worked out finely to have the Winnipeg Ballet club , directed by Gweneth Lloyd , for the last meet ing this season , of the Women's Musical club , Monday . The audi torium concert hall was full and the audience was entertained with two divertissements in the classi cal style to music of Tschaikowsky and Arensky , and a comedy , The Wager , in three acts to music by Mozart . A good many persons had seen these productions of Miss Lloyd's last summer and realized more than before how cleverly adapted her choreography was to the talents and present technical accomplishments of her ensemble in the Wagner Everybody in it , even the vendors and apprentices , has an individual part , in contrariety to the stylized divertissements where the slightest raggedness counts severely against the perfection continually suggest ed by the figuration . It was quite clear that here was a group of in dividualists who showed greater freedom and confidence this time and had also gained in alertness about the general effect . The effect was delightful with the details of miming clearer and noth ing overstressed not scamped . There was an excellent minx ( Betty Hey ) to set her influence over the per formance in genteel slyness , as the | principal plotter . It seems a shame to particularize when all came off with such credit and lived the situa tions , but the other fine principals will be mentioned : Grace McFeter idge , Jeanne McKenzie , Paddy Stone and Gordon Hill , as the Lady whose stays were firmly pulled , the De mure Daughter , her Lover , and the Rake , respectively . The action was against a golden brown curtain and the costumes , designed by Betty Parker and executed by Mary Mor riss , made the most pleasing im pression for their design and color . Signs of Nervousness The costumes for the divertiss ments executed by Ruth Haney and the background for the dancing was rich dark grey and blue . There were a few signs of ner vousness ; some of the young dancers got out of time and momentarily lost concentration . The pace was felt to be a shade fast . But one could not be blinded to the grace of much of the dancing and the great promise of all of it . One looks forward now to seeing the movement in Winni peg put on the expected Royal Academy examination basis . It will be a big step forward . A good share of the afternoon's enjoyment lay in the orchestra's playing under Geoffrey Wadding ton , especially in the Mozart . There was some heaviness from them be fore that . The stage director was David Yeddeau . In the audience sat the dis tinguished Mme . Adeline Genee , who is reported to have been genuinely enthusiastic about the proceedings . - L.S . were
