Ballet Makes Perfect Score Second Night BY FRANK MORRISS The second evening of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet's mid - season per formances at the Playhouse theatre Wednesday found the company in exceptionally fine form . After a mediocre performance of the sec ond act of Swan Lake on Tuesday evening , they came back with one that was fully 100 per cent better . This applied to the corps de ballet , to Eva von Gencsy , to Arnold Spohr and the orchestra under the direction of Eric Wild . Paddy Stone , with the assistance of Miss von Gencsy and Sheila Hen derson , again brought the house down with his guest appearance in two modern ballet fragments . There was also a superb perfor mance of Shadow on the Prairie in which Carlu Carter returned to the role of the young wife , and Gordon Wales played the husband . There was a deserved ovation . Jean Stoneham and Mr. Spohr starred in the pas de deux from the Tschaikowsky - Ivanov Casse Noisette . It was a triumphant oc casion for Miss Stoneham , who tackled the virtuoso piece in daz zling fashion and did quite the best dancing she has ever done in Win nipeg . She was gallantly partnered by Mr. Spohr , who was in fine form . Miss Stoneham's command of the grand manner , and her in fectiously high spirits , gave the oc casion the final stamp of excel lence . The evening also included an ex cellent performance of Rondel , with Mariná Katronis stealing the show with her pert and thoroughly delightful performance of Marthe , the kitchen maid .
