Ballet Comedy Scores Big Hit a on An American in Paris , third of the new ballets , received its premiere Friday night at the Playhouse in the second of three days ' performances by the Winni peg ballet . It is a delightful fan tasy , a hodge podge of vodvil - like progression , in which varied char acters spring to life with realistic humor . Gweneth Lloyd has again hit the bull's eye in comic creation and this " Paris " -danced to Gersh win music - takes its place along side Triple Alliance as one of her top - notch efforts in comedy . Betty Hey - Farrally gives priceless . portrait of an English school marm a sight - seeing tour , complete with red guide book and outfitted in large square checked woolen suit and fiat panama hat . The four accompany ing school girls , all similarly dressed in red jackets and hats , provide hilarious moments in awe struck attitudes . Paddy Stone , in dress suit , as touring American , does all manner of clever things in expert fashion and displayed more suppleness and debonair ease in lighter mo ments than one had hitherto ob served . Partnered by Jeanne Mc Kenzie , as a mannequin , the two showed mastery of rhythmic line in arrested poses in duo dance sequences . Uproarious Interludes The two taxis , with John Waks and Mathew Wiesenthal control ling their swift passage from op posite sides of stage , often avert ing collision by a hair's breadth , added to the uproarious comedy . Eileen Hyman as La Parisienne and the six Moulin Rouge girls , captivated in various interludes . The back drop curtain was one of John Russell's cleverest creations , with the Eiffel Tower predomin ant in foreground . In Facade Suite Miss Lloyd has been successful in setting to dance forms the piquant drolleries of William Walton's parodies of dance tunes , polka , waltz , tango and Scottish Rhapsody . The ballet was repeated Friday Jeanne Mc Kenzie's Country Dance , as shep herdess , with three little lamb kins , ' was a charming episode and the shy , flirtatious interlude with Betty Hey - Farrally as milkmaid , and Paddy Stone as yodeller with " cow " promoting the romance again provoked loud laughter . Patricia Litchfield , absent from the local scene for two seasons , has returned and her fine work has immeasurably strengthened every ballet in which she has ap peared . She held the leading spot in repetition of Backstage Friday . As the temperamental ballerina she showed technical skill and reaped a big share of the plaudits with Eileen Hyman and Paddy Stone : The corps de ballet dis . tinguished themselves in the flash ing , intricate brilliance of the finale . - S.R.M . the
