I think you will find pleasure in the comments below since you sent John Macdonald a complimentary copy . Did I tell you that I heard from John Macdonal's sister Sheena - of Rhombus Films , Toronto , asking me to send a one page Proposal in September or so . Unfortunately family pressures are valueless in business of this kind - or in any other , for that matter . But at least I have brought the material to the surface . Brian has ( by e mail ) sent me some of his MA collection -one of these days it will be appreciated elsewhere ! Has Kathleen Smith shown you the clip of MA dancing ? If so , what does it tell you ? I would hope she will eventually deposit it with you . Where did she find it ? Nick Gudewill [ below ] is my cousin's youngest son . He has read my biography and , other than speaking of ' Salomm ' apparently enjoyed it . Original Message From : John Macdonald To : Felix Cherniavsky Sent : Thursday , July 19 , 2001 9:28 PM Subject : Maud Allan and he Art over Felix , I finished your book on the weekend and I have found myself going a few of the chapters again . I am somewhat spellbound by the character of Maud and find myself not knowing whether I like her or despise her but always hoping each chapter would make it easier for me to make a definitive stand on this matter . Perhaps I was hoping for more in that you would present more of the person behind the art . But I reminded myself that the book is called M.A. and her Art and not a character study like Hardy's tragic character Tess of the D'Ubervilles . Always swimming against the tide and therefor destined to drown in it ----- before her time . Some chapters appealed to me more than others and in particular chapter 10. Macleod gave the reader a greater study of what possessed this women . There is no question of her talent and towards the end I had more sympathy for her and appreciation of her spirit She was so gifted but tragic . Your book " The Salome Dancer arrived a minute ago . Many Thanks for this . I am off with Nick Gudewill on our yearly fishing expedition next week so Printed for Dance Collection Danse < talk@dcd.ca > 1
