Mr. Felix Cherniavsky 8919 46th Street Edmonton , AB TSR OVZ Jan. 25. 2008 Dear Felix My apologies for not keeping better in touch since the mid - 90's !! My opera project " The Salome Dancer based on our bookes been very slowly transforming itself and getting closer to production but had wanted to await a final version before I re contacted you . However last weekend did a long - needed cleaning of my music room and found these manuscripts of yours which felt should be returned , so I've taken this ocassion to write The project finally found a producer NUMUS Concerts in Waterloo , Ontario - but has been transformed into a work called , provisionally Screen Test and it is more about the power of the contemporary media than the dancer's story . The brother / sister relationship is still crucial and the sister is sulle cancer , but the story has changed . We did this as we felt it this new story had a stronger presence on stage and the fact that the murder in our story - a TV reporter is beheaded ) happens during the opera , rather than having the 2 murders having already happened before the opera began , gives a more dynamic presentation . We also wanted to get away from yet another opera based on the murder of women ( a very common theme in opera plots ) and find a new direction I've We had a 5 day work shop last summer recelting in 4 pieces being recorded enclosed a CD of this music ve also enclosed a brief synopsis of the new opera . With luck ( and funding the final production will happen in 2003. Though the work has moved beyond my original idea based on the Salome Dance " the work will remain an important part of the process and your helpfulness is greatly appreciated mil let you know of other developments es they occur Sorry again for the tardiness of t's missive Yours ruly Jim Broth Tim Brady 5215 Mountain Sights Montréal QC H3W 2Y2 ( 514 ) 489 - 5946 ibrady@generation.net
