8919 146th Street Edmonton Ab TSR OV7 November 7 1997 Laurence Adams Dance Canada 145 George Street Toronto M5A 2M6 Ontario Dear Laurence , I came across and , to place things in correct record , have signed the enclosed contract re . publication of Maud Allan and Her Art . At the same time I would appreciate the $ 1000 balance which , some weeks ago , you said you would send me this month . I wonder , too , if you can give me a target date of publication ? I assume you will send me the final proofs for comments although having once again admired Cecchetti , I am confident you will do a fine editorial job . Incidentally , I realized that Cechhetti was eminent in St. Petersburg at the same time as my maternal [ Scottish ] ancestors , were resident there . We have recently discovered that the first of that family to migrate from Scotland to Russia ended up as chief gardener to Catherine the Great ! a a I plan to visit California sometime in the New Year , to give one or more talks on Maud Allan , and possibly to collect a number of her personal items ( clothes etc. ) which were in the care of Manya's youngest daughter , who so sadly died earlier this year . Her son seems prepared to pass them on to me - if I come to select and collect them . I tracked him down via the internet ! How are plans for the costume exhibit going ? Which reminds me to enclose also the review of Wilde's Last Stand , as promised . I sent The Salome Dancer to Philip Hoare this morning - it would be nice if he returned the favour ! We expect our third grandchild next month - and think of suggesting Maud and / or Allan - but not Theo - as first names ! at the best O Teleno bemars sh ) Felix Cherniavsky .
