ROME , January 2 .--- Pope Plus has just ordered one of the most precious relics of Rome restored to the church of San Sil vestro , from which it was removed to the Vatican in 1880 , when the church was be sieged by Italian troops . The relic is the authentic head of St. Johaitho Baptist . Ac cording to ancient tradition the head , which was demanded by the daugyter of Herod as & reward for her danciog , was carried from Palestine to Rome ten centuries ago by Greek monks and deposited in the church of San Silvestro , then & monastery . In numerable miracles are attributed to tho relic . It , was held in such esteem that battles were fought for its possession from 1411 until 1870. The rello remained in the church until 1870 , when it was removed to the Vatican for safety by Pope Plus IX . Plus X thinks there is no danger in re turning the relic to its ancient resting place . The relic is contained in a silver reliquary weighing a bundred pounds . The Pontif having inaugurated a reform in the present style of church music , in tends reforming art .
