NY Times 1908 July 20 503 Gertrude Hoffman Rescued Went swimming at Coney Island and Made sensation there Gertrude Hoffman , the Salome dancer who is spending the summer at Coney Island with her husband , went swimming yesterday and was rescued by friends and police . She doesn't dance on Sunday unde the NY law , but she does imitations and she was unable to finish them at the afternoon performance . She went bathing with four friends , swam off the boat , " lost her hold " and became terrified , began screaming . Police called , everything ok . 1908 July 15 p / 53 After Gertrude Hoffman completes her season at Hammer stein's Roof Garden in Salome on Labor Day , she will go on tour , presenting the dance whixh has attracted so much attention here , as head of the Gertrude Hoffman Touring Co , There will be nine other acts and the tour ill be booked for regular performances in th manner of A " combination " attraction .
