PIANIST came a DEATH OF WELL - KNOWN LIVERPOOL VIOLINIST ' The death has taken place of Mr. Alfred Ross , a well - known violinist and teacher , at his residence , 46 , Jermyn street , Prince's Park , Liverpool . Mr. Ross of family of musicians . His father was the con ductor at the old Alexandra Theatre , Liverpool ; and his brother , the late Mr. Charles Ross , was a pianist of inter national repute . Mr. Alfred Ross , inarried Miss Marguerite Sitwell , the pianist , a pupil of Pachman , whom he met while studying in Berlin . A pupil of Joachim , Mr. Ross studied at the Hock School , Berlin . He was a teacher of the former Liverpool College of Music in Upper Parliament - street , and later was responsible for the teach ing of violin students under the Liver pool Corporation scholarships scheme , being responsible for the training of many prominent musicians , including Eugene Goosens , Robert Class , and Mr. Louis Cohen . Many of the players of the Philharmonic Orchestra were also pupils of his . Mr. Ross was a former conductor of St. Francis Xavier's Roman Catholic Church choir , and was a member of the Philharmonic Society : He was also a member of the Schiever Quartet , the classical performances of which were a feature of the musical life of Liverpool in pre - war days . He leaves a widow . Requiem Mass will be held at St. Bernard's Roman Catholic Church , Kingsley - road , this morning , and the interment will take place at Anfield Cemetery . DEATH OF MR . C. J. ROSS Once well - known in the Liverpool music world , Mr. Charles Joseph Rose , the pianist , has died at his residence , 65 , Canning - street , aged fifty - eight . He had been in retirement for several years owing to ill - health , and was not married . The son of John Ross , him self a pioneer in music , he studied in Berlin under Oscar Raif , and travelled all over Germany with John Moore in recitals for two - piano music . They attracted the notice of Moszkowski , who specially arranged several of his com positions for their use . After touring Russia and Poland , Mr. Ross settled in Liverpool about 1902 , giving many concerts and holding a large teaching concern . For some time he was choirmaster at St. Anne's , Overton - street , and afterwards at Salford Catholic Cathedral . During a stay in Canada , the late Charles Frohman engaged him to conduct the orchestra for a production in which Maud Adams , the celebrated American actress , was starring . The funeral is at Anfield Cemetery to - morrow morning after Requiem Mass at St. Philip Neri's , Catharine - street . !!!
