2 without prejudice . April 8th , 1939 Dear Maud . - I just had your letter of the twenty fifth - I can't understand why you have not had at least two letters from ihne before you wrote yours - I am sorry and I think of you so much and feel so worried about you , but as you know , there is nothing at this moment that I can do - I am working very hard and I hope to be able to accomplish some thing worth while - and when I do I you know that I will always do all I can for you and So all I dan do for the moment is to get on as well as possible with my own work . I do know and sympathize with what a hard time you are having - but I still think you were foolish for your own sake to go back to it . 發 We are having three very hot days and my room has been rather warn - it is delightful most of the time - but thewe are three of the " unusual " variety of days . Howerer it is cooler today - I can just see the garden as you pictured it in your letter It seems difficult to realize that you are still having cool weather and that spring is just coming there for it's always here . not pay Now about Miss Krassin - the " Russian woman " . She did ne fifty pounds at any time or any sum at all . It is pure fabrication of someone's vicious mind I am going to write her a letter and ask her what she means by saying such a thing . If necessary I shall place it in the hands of a solicitor there , tot there is a law in England that protects one's name and I shall not hesitate to use that law it Etienne or Robin are circulating false rumours around about me and you can tell them so I think such a yarn could only have come from them - for they are the only people we know who know her . I met her through Etienne . I am determined about this ! 9 Now with regard to the furniture . I told Mrs. Veith and Robin the exact truth . I said that you borrowed money on the furnitur and were unable to py it and the company recalled it and I took over thd furniture and paid for it in monthly payments . Which I dia ! You know the history as well as I do and the furniture is safely in my name and for your sake as well as anything you must not try to give any other impression to save any false sense of pride . You know , lay dear laud that I will never enforce this against you in any way , but I don't intend to allow someone else to come in and do me out of it in order to get it away from you . think You should know after all these years how I want to do all in my power to make your life a happy and peaceful one , and I never want to deprive you of the things you love - and I don't intend to allow anyone else to do so either if I can peevent it . I don't feel very much like writing much in letters - I have seen the foolishness of that - and when you say you are not receiving my letters it makes me uneasy about the ones I write to you . I intend to write " Without prejudice " across all of them for the moment , so if they
