EVELYN B. GIFFORD CIVIC LEADER , DIES Sn11 16756 Mrs. Evelyn B. Gifford , prominent Pasadena civic leader and humanitarian , died yesterday . She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Everett W. Brooks , for whom Brookside Park was named , and the wife of Robert Ladd Gifford , noted railroad consulting engineer . Mrs. Gifford's public life was devoted to the alleviation of Star News suffering human and animal and her energy was directed to Jan. 16 , 1956 ward those organizations spe cializing in the field . BEFORE leaving her home in Chicago , she had established such a reputation in the field that she was the subject of a laudatory editorial in the Chi cago Evening Post which cited her prosecution of more than 200 cruelty to animal cases and her work as President of the Allendale Farm for Boys and Director of the Illinois State Anti - Cruelty Society . In Pasadena she served on the Charity Ball Committee , was a member of the Board of Directors of the Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra , a Director the Pa sa dena Humane Society which she served as president for a 10 year period during its difficult formative years . SHE SERVED as President of the State Commission for Protection of Children and was co - founder of the Big Sisters ' League Home for Girls in Los Angeles During World War II she served as director of the Pasa dena Unit of the Naval Aid . She also served as a member of the Board of Women Councillors of the University of Southern Cali 1fornia , as a National Director of Pro - America , Inc. and was a member of the Advisory Board of the Braille Institute of America , She is survived by her hus band , Robert L , a son , Brooks Gifford , prominent Pasadena Jattorney and noted amateur yachtsman ; a granddaughter : Mrs. Richard Dobbins ; and grandson , Brooks Gifford , Jr. Services are pending and will be announced later by the family 10 G O Set
