General - Anzeiger für Eberfeld - Barmen No. 258 Thursday , 2nd November 1905 Local NewS . Eberfeld , 2nd November 1905 on 3 23 yet it a c . --The second Artistic Evening of the Direktion De Gauset 8th November will arouse special interest through the appearance of the dancer Miss Maud Gwendolen Allan . Many people will have heard , from newspapers etc. , of the new dancing , as introduced by Isadora Duncan and which she has attempted to preserve by establishing her dance school at Grunewald in Berlin ; a few will perhaps have had the opportunity to see her A reporter writes : In the opinion of many people Miss Allan exceeds Miss Duncan by far in her power of representation . She is moreover pianist of skill , who originally intended to become professional player . Thus the secret of her artistic performance lies not only in the technique of her impressionistic mime , developed from studying the masterpieces of ancient and modern visual arts . but the main effect stems Irom her great musical understanding . In the Independence Belge " Ch . Tardien writes about the dancer and her art : " Bearing , movement and expression perhaps resembled dance and mime , and was neither dance nor mi me , but rather a type of passionate personal entreaty , animating , shaping and communicating not only the melodic thoughts of the composers , but also the moods conveyed to the audience by these thoughts . It has been said : Music is an architecture of sounds . One could just as well say : monument is a polyphony of forms . There are great painters and sculptors who seem to demand a musical commentary . Miss Maud Allen offers an analogous representation the other way round , in that through the mobility of her very expressive face , through her body which is completely possessed by rhythm , rhythm , she translates the melodic momentum , the harmonic movements and the colours embellishing the sounds into the three - dimensional and into gestures , and arouses the poetic sentiments which the audience feels through the development of the musical thoughts . If we add that her costumes are exactly suited to the character of her artistic performances , that the tone of the garments is interwoven exactly with the tone of the sonatas , then one understands that the combination of such artistic devices must produce a complete illusion . This magic cannot be analysed . It must be succombed to to be understood . " The artist is accompanied by Elsa Rompe from Berlin , who will also play a few solo pieces . Frances Macmillan is well known to those who attend the Gaufet concerts and has bravely been able to bear comparison with top violinists . In the last few months he has had extraordinary success in Vienna , Brussels , Paris and London , He has certainly perfected his art even more during the year , so that his return appearance can be awaited with anticipation . The second Artistic Evening again promises pleasures of a type not yet been offered in Wuppertal . Tickets and season tickets are available from the Tourist Information Office .
