The remarkable con . . ception of the dance and the vision of " Salome , " which were repeated , stood by themselves , and belonged to another domain of thought and action . Miss Allan's dance poems were chiefly drawn from the music of Chopin , and in the realm of romance and sentiment she bad wide scope for her imaginative and sensi tive temperament . In her first number se essayed to portray the emotions of sorrow , despair , hope , and joy , the nusi cal expression of which she found in four Chopin preludas . In all these she was consummately graceful , and every action or pose was in harmony with the thought , sombre or bright , which it was designed to suggest . The accompanying music wils admirably rendered by the Cherniavskys . Perhaps her most powerful performance was to the inusic of Chopin's " Funeral March . " In this , with deeper significance . she typified the emotions which she had illustrated separately in the preludes . It was an exceedingly impressive represen tation of the spirit of the music , of stately grief , resignation , and exaltation . Then in happy contrast came the joy and spontaneity of " Norwegian Dance " ( Grieg ) -a creation full of charm and brightness . Recalled with thusiasm , Miss Allan gave her delightful Brahms ' waltz studv . For her final co tribution to the programme Miss Allan repeated " Th : Ca ... ” Inc. and vision . louno I in the purely musical paru the enter tainment the work of the Cherniavskys 1 was consistently artistic . The ' cellist . Mischel , was especially successful with e his rendering of " Dreaming " ( Schumann ) , " Serenade " ( V. Hubert ) , and . " Spinning Wheel " ( Popper ) , three numbers in e which beauty of tone and skilfulness or 3 execution insured a thoroughly impressive ensemble . Imagination , feeling , and delicacy illuminated the render ing of the Schumann nusic . and gave that number a poetical quality . There was a fascination also in the skil . ful execution of the felicitously contrasted companion pieces . The pianist Jan was I heard to conspicuous advantage in the bracketed series , " Norturne in D Flat , " " Etude Valse in G Fiat " ( Chopin ) , and " Campanella " ( Liszt ! The latter was a brilliant piere of work , and as an inter il preter of Chopin te plave revealed ad : mirable qualities . Tivi Leo gave t a rendering of the Schubert Wilhelmi - “ Ave Maria , " which crew demonstrative Parplange from the audience .
