Her principal item was " The Vision of Salome , " a realistic piece of work , with many thrilling features . " Everywhere Miss Allan has appeared some people have objected to the portrayal of this scene on the stage ; but the dancer claims that there is nothing improper in the performance , because it is represented simply as a dream . NUSUAL Interest aitaches to the matinee performance which the Actors ' Association is arranging for July 8 à honour of Miss Ellen Terry . The chief in terest centres in the production of the trial scene fro ... " The Merchant of Venice , " and Miss Terry herself will probably for the last time , play the part of Portia , whici in earlle : days made her famous . This will be a very dif . ferent thing from the brief recitals from Portla's speeches which Miss Terry giyes in her lectures . She will appear , as she appeared so often at the Lyceum with Sir Henry Irving in days gone by , on the stage Itsell , with all its trappings and accessories , and she will be assisted by actors and actresses specially selected by the Actors ' As sociation for the occasion , Mr. G. S. Titheradge ( president of the association ) fuking the part of Shylock . The occasion will be marked by the reappearance for this event only ) of Mrs. J. R. Wood , of Newcastle , who as Essie Jenyns won for herself in the few years she was on the stage a very high place as a Shakespearean actress . When Miss Jenyns got married the stage lost one of its bright particular stars . “ During her short career on the stage , " says Brewer in his " History of the Drama and Musie in New South Wales , " " Miss Essie Jenyns reached i position in drama similar to that of Madame Melba in ..... Schubert opera . Her first appearance was in a comparatively modern part - that of May Gordon in a play entitled " The Iron Ring . ' But the accomplished young lady made her first -ppeal té the judginent of the critics in the highest walk of the stage as Juliet , Mr. W. J. Holloway playing Romeo and Miss Kate Arden the nurse . Miss Jenyns has studied under William Creswick , and certainly did credit to her tutor . Her extreme youth , personal attractions , and talent CT ORAESTRA of these two ladies on the stage together will make the occasion a memorable one indeed . Mrs. Wood will play the part of Nerissa . It is a part , unfortunately , with only a few speaking lines in the trial scene of the play ( Portia has a opoly the scene , so far as the ladies are con cerned ) , but that will not detract from the interest 0 ! seeing her once again upon the stage . Suphine Mail Miss Maud Allan as Salome . This celebrated dancer , who is now appearing at the Palace Theatre , was born at Toronto , in Canada , and was educated in California , and afterwards in Europe . She studied music in Berlin , and nude les first appearance as #dancer at Vienna in 1903 .
