Auckland ROYAL THEATRE Direction W. Angus MacLeod THE EVENT OF THE YEAR MONDAY NEXT , MAY 18th . For FIVE NIGHTS ONLY , And ONE MATINEE , SATURDAY , MAY 2014 , $ The MOST FAMOUS DANCER IN THE WORLD , NIAUD ALLAN'S ADVENT . Mr Augus MacLeod , under whose direction Viiss Maud Allan is now toure ing Australasia , told a reporter yester day that this was his first visit co New Zealanıl , though he was in Australia two years ago . “ Has Miss Allan been a success in New Zealand so far ? " . Mr MacLeod was asked . “ I should think so , " he replied . " " It is not likely that an artist wno has captured London , Paris , Ber lin , and New York , to say nothing of South Africa , India , and the East , would fail in that paradise for what is first - class in music and drama - dus tralasia ! Dunedin acclaimed her as all . the rest of the world has done ; at Wel lington we did splendid business , and last week at Wanganui , Palmerston North , and Napier the theatres would not hold the people who wanted to coine . " “ What is there about Jaud Allan's art that is so peculiarly attractive ? ” " ' I think it lies in her personality and in the fact that she is so much more than a mere dancer , ” replied Mr Mac Leod . “ You see , she is a very highly trained musician and she interprets by means of movement , gesture , facial ex pression , and repose what the composer ( be he Chopin , Grieg , Beethoven , or Mendelssoha ) conveys to her by the particular composition she is dancing , Maud Allan's interpretation may or may not be yours , but it cannot fail to bo illuminating . Hers indeed is a revival of the ancient Greek dancing , and has nothing in common with the old Italian or modern Russian school of ballot dancing and gymnastics . " Miss Allan has been fortunate . securing the co - operation of the Cher niavskys -- Leo , Jan , and Mischel . They are not only - musical geniuses , these three wonderful Rüssian boys , but a large part of their strength as a trio lies in the fact that they have played together for ten years , and that they aro utterly without jealousy of one an other and in completo musical sym pathy . " Our season here will be quite & short , one , five evening performances , commencing on Monday , and a matänee on Saturday afternoon . 23rd . I anti cipato a big rush at the Dresden to morrow morning when the booking starts .
