# VYTVORITY REGIONALO MUSEUM B.D. Henderson Est . 1895 P.O. Box 352 Wanganui New Zealand Phone 57 443 Director : LXXamino 1 December 1983 IC / 83 / 50 / 63 PO Mr Felix Cherniavsky 8919 146th Street Edmonton Alberta T5R OV7 CANADA 1 Dear Sir , Your letter to Mr Bates of the Wanganui Chronicle has been forwarded to us as we now hold the files of both local newspapers . We have typed up publicity material and a review of the concert . It was quite usual for Wanganui to be visited by overseas artists in those days as it was the fifth largest centre after Auckland , Wellington , Christchurch and Dunedin . These five cities would have been the normal circuit . Miss Allan's visit was followed by the George Willoughby Dramatic Company ' with a play based on ' Uncle Tom's Cabin ' a piece entitled ' At Cripple's Creek ! ha strenuous drama of Western mining life " - and the ' Era Comedy Tour ' , the New York Jubilee Singers ' and the ' National Duo ' with songs and dances . The weather for 5 May was improving , with bright days and cold nights forecast . There does not appear to have been any major news Ulster Federation was being suggested , President Huerta was about to resign in Mexico , Canadian lumbermen were being urged to lower their prices to secure a place in the New Zealand market , Suffragettes were active in Belfast , gangs in New York attacked policemen and N.Z. politicians were campaigning for re - election . I trust this meets your requirements and we would appreciate acknowledgement in your proposed publication . Yours faithfully , an Lan Church Ian Church Archivist Encl : ( 3 ) P.S.
