- 3 - of the song was the natural transition from mood to mood . It was impress ive to a degree . Chopin's waltz in A minor , Op . 34 , was the music selected for the second dance , a blend of languor and mirth , but always joyful . Mendelsohn's ever - popular ' Spring Song ' followed . All in white , bare - armed , of course , and with hair floating free , she perfectly pictured the part . Delight , surprise , the sheer joy of being alive were expressed by the mobile face of the dancer as she tripped to the music to which she gave a greater charm than it possessed of itself . So , too , the delightful ' Moment Musical ' was the motive for a dancer of sheer joy , emphasised by the warm glowing colour of the light in which it was danced . Greig's ' Peer Gynt ' suite interpreting Morning ' , ' Ase's Death ' , ' Anitra's Dance ' and ' Dance of the Gnomes ' were the numbers in which Miss Allan showed the wonder of her art . She flitted from mood to mood , dancing with a delightful freedom and airiness in the happier themes , then chang ing , with remarkable contrasts , into a mood of intense woe in the death scene . The ' Blue Danube Valse ' was a most picturesque and emotional dance . to a hearty encore , Miss Allan favoured with Brahm's Valse , which again showed in changing moods and poetical poetry . It would be difficult to appraise too highly the part played by the brothers Cherniavsky in a programme such as that of last evening . Not only do they supply the music which the dancer interprets in a manner beyond any but musicians of a highly artistic order , but in concert and individually they contribute instrumental items which are an important feature of the high - class programme . Mr Jan Cherniavsky , the pianist of the party , was heard in a magnificent rendering of ' Rigoletto ! ( Verdi Liszt ) , and in response to a recall gave Paderewski's Minuet ' with greater charm . Mr Mischel Cherniavsky gave a masterly rendering of ' Vito ! on the cello , and was heard to advantage in ' Scherzo . ( Van Goens ) , both ' ( items being enthusiastically received . As an encore number he gave Gavotte Popper very well . Mr Leo Cherniavsky , the violinst , displayed fine technique in ' Ave Maria ' the Spanish dance , and ' Imaginetion ' ( an encore number ) , the audience being delighted with each item . Mr Frank St Leger proved a capable accompanist . For this evening a complete change of programme is announced . Those people who have not yet seen Maud Allan and who love music and art in the highest sense , and who wish to realise something of the exquisite artistry of the classic dance of the Greeks should not miss the opportunity .
