LB. benefit for toys and Christmas dinner baskets for needy poor was held at the Republic Theatre last erening , but the dancing numbers of Maud Allan and Roshanara were omit ted by orders of the Police Department , Although the program , with the danc ing features included , were extensively advertised through the week , it was not until the eleventh hour that the Police Department informed the management that they would not be permitted . This action follows the summonsing of Pavlowa and Toto , the Tippodrome clown , for their dancing numbers given in the benefit at the Hippodrome a week ago . Miss Allan and Roshanara , when their part of last night's program reached , filled in with brief addresses . Proceeds Over $ 2,000 . The Republic was crowded to capacity when the lengthy entertainment program was begun . The receipts from the sale of tickets will exceed $ 1,000 , and from the sale of programs and from con tributions another $ 1,000 will be realized , making a total of $ 2,000 or more for Christmas cheer for poor folk .
