Interview dated April 3 1910 I donºt know when I have enjoyed myself so much . Mis Allan fell to comparing European compartments with our sleeping cars to the disparagement of our stuffy sleepers with their heavy draperies . I disagree with her . I don't care for ve the sensation of being locked in a compartment - with a maniac for all I know . I have enjoyed ( ? ) the delight of foreign travel and that part of it does not appeal to me . I said so . Miss Allan argued the point quite heatedly . " They are terri = ble these curtains " she insisted But worse are the shocking sights in the morning - men dressed only in trousers with suspenders , or in bath robes or dressing gowns - it would not be tolerated in Europe . I can't tell you how these things frighten me . " She was in such deadly earnest " said Mrs. Talbot , " that I was rather impressed and wondered why it had never occurred to me to be frightened and disgusted by the fearful sight of hurrying men in trousrs , undershirts and trailing suspenders . It seemed , as I listened to Miss Allan's description of her own horror quite the proper and womanly thing to do and for a moment I felt that something was lacking in me . Then I remembered that this young woman , scandalized by the sight of hanging suspenders , appears nightly before thousands of people , as many thousands as will come overdressed in a necklace and an • I nearly laughed aloud , in fact I was fairly shrieking , but her serious manner convinced me that she was sincere . • The lady was really shocked by the si ht of men dressed only in undershirt , trousers , dressing gowns and other necessary accessories .
