Francisco CHRONICLE Friday February 23 , 1910 FIRST " SALOME " TO RETURN HOME Maud Allan to Present Dances at the Carrick Exponent of Classic Posturing Coming to City After a Long Absence . M AUD ALLAN..or Maud Durrant , as she is known here -- returns to her home city on March 29th , and will give a series of four terpsi chorean interpretations at the Garrick Theater . Miss Allan , who established her fame in England as the creator of the " Salome " dance , has not been in San Francisco since she left it shortly after the execution of her brother , Theodore Durrant , but in recent years she has created a furor both in London and on the Continent , and in the last few months through the larger cities of this country , not only on account of her more sensational performances , but also because of her extraordinary per sonal beauty and grace , as well as her substantial success in the modern school of classic dancing . She will appear under the joint di rection of , Martin Beck , manager of the Orpheum circuit , and Will Greenbaum , the local impresario . In San Francisco she will give four performances , mak ing one appearance in Oakland , and it is probable that the music for her in terpretations will be supplied by a lo . cal orchestra under the direction of Paul Steindorff . The orchestra 16 a . highly important part of her offering , for she interprets classic musical themes through the motions and pos . tures of her body . Miss Allan's career has been a unique and romantic one . After leaving San Francisco she assumed her mother's name and went to Germany to study singing She did not achieve success in this field , but sprang into an envi able celebrity in London , where she developed the " Salome " dance , the idea of which comes , from Oscar Wilde's play , and followed this with other dances , notable among which is a graphic commentary upon Men delssohn's " Spring Song .
