a Feb 10/1900 Cincennati Pro MAUD ALLAN TO SURELY GO ON Ibid Feb 13/10 Seat 3 8.3 Commercial Tubure Artist Will Arrive Today and Rehearse With the Sym phony Orchestra . The coming of Maud Allan to Musie hall on Friday evening will prove to be one of the most successful events of the current musical season . The advance sale opened yesterday morning at the Church - Beinkamp company and in spite of the untoward weather an exceptional ly large number of reservations were made . It is safe to predict that Music hall will hold one of the finest audiences on Friday evening , not only in point of numbers , but also in quality . The rep utation of Maud Allan for delicacy and refinement is best emphasized by the fact that practically all the regular mu sie lovers , including the best element of the social life of the city , has secured seats in the parquette . This would serve as a strong argument against the discus . sion which has been raging since Maud Allan has come to this country . There was a rumor abubad yesterday that the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra had withdrawn from the engagement and hat the appearance of Miss Allan would Abe called off . This is absolutely untrue . The music arrived yesterday and the or échestra , under Mr. Stokovski's direction , ubegan rehearsals at once . Miss Allan her self will arrive today to rehearse with the orchestra . The concert will be given exactly as planned and the symphony board is displaying its interest in the matter by a complete attendance . 600 THE SCRIPTURA IDEA OF SALOME оооооо BY MAUD ALANI My Interpretation o Salome te . In 29 respect tiks that of OBCE Wiide . My dance is based on the soriptura verse . And the gfri Selome is not the sinful , Justful woman such as he has pictured her , but a girl - a child . She is a wild elfin thing with no know edge of the crime she is taking part in when she carries out her mothers in structions to dance before Herod and , as a reward to ask for the head of John the Baptist . Obediently , she arrays her self and dances . As she darees the spirit of the thing gets into her veins and fires her imagin ation . On , on she dances , spurred and in toxicated by the delight and admiration of the king , and at the end Sheices out anci back to her garden and her handmaláens . No realization of what she has danced for , or what she has done , dawns upon hez until the gruesome head of John is brought before her , and then her whole attitude changes . She stands as though transfixed - ther body becomes rigid with the great and awful horror of the thing she has done . Tremor after tremor seizes her and she pushes the awful head away in disgust Then comes another change , the lights are dimmed and we see the girl throw herself in mute agony on the floor before the head of St. John . In a burst of re morse she pleads with it to forgive her , to be merciful to her , to show and tell her of this wonderful religion of his that has so sustained him through all his earthly trials . In desperation she offers him her brow to kiss , ner lips and then her whole body : she sways and swoons before him , but no answer comes to relieve her despair . A last the head seems to be allght with di Vine fire she seems to see the eyes sniling and promising her forgiveness , and with a wild cry she drops before it -dead . This is entirely my own idea , and is probably my most popular dance .
