26 ( 11 : 1 ) 11 : Jan 19 Musical Conner tar Jan 26 Maud Van , the Ametall whose SUCH debut in Symphony Hall on Wednesday afternoon both the musical and terpsichorean element of Boston agus talked very interestingly about her work and its grane evolation out of the strivings of a diligent piano student lu the form it has now taken , away and beyond anxihing she had ever anticipated . As a very young girl Mistal displayed such marked musical talents that her parents oded to take her to Berlin for the general and muha ! education to be obtained in that great center . On her arrival she applied for admission to the Hochschule , where She was one of seven out of a list of seventy - seven boli cants to be admitted . There she pursued her pianino studies quietly for several years , ending with a seaser work under Busoni , who was then living at Weimar . It was during her study at the Hochschule that Joachim commended highly her haarvelously acute musical With that as a basis and her splendid musical and literary edu cation as a strong additional fac tor in the shaping of her life , Miss Allan was forced almost uncon . sciously by the great rhythmic yearning for outward physical ex pression into the life of a musical interpreter through the rhythmic grace of the dance . In order to evolve this art , Miss Allan , who had never taken á Jancing lesson in her life , simply haunted the libraries and galleries of Europe gleaning all the informa 10n he could froin ancient books , Hirisan yases and bas reliefs . To beget the proper sequences , bow ever , he had to ciest much of her work and fit it as best she could to the few scant hints she had gathered on the subject from these other sources , The result is a beautifully finished exposi tion of the ancient Greek dancing with an underlying spirituality of conception , which makes all her work beautiful and ennobling irre spective of what dance she essays . Lourier OL 1960 This Maud Allan Repeats " The Vision of Salome . " Maud Allan , whose dancing has created a sensation far and wide , repeated at Carnegie Hall , Wednesday afternoon of last week , several of her wonderful dances , including Feb the weird " Vision of Salome . " Miss Allan had two pre vious appearances in the same ball before audiences that Z crowded every nook lid corner of the auditorium . The Tact that there were low empty scats last week at the third events Le attribute to the large number of mati nees in New York on that day.R. E. Johnston , the man ager of Miss Allan , has been deluged with demands for a night exhibition , and he will doubtless be prepared to an nounce the date within the next week or ten days . Miss Illan is the embodiment of grace and feminine loveliness . Her dancing gives some remarkably realistic illustrations of the music , and for that reason alone its educational importance appeals to the musical public as well as the pub Jic that cares only for the theater . Besides repeating “ The Vision of Salome " last Wednes day , Miss Allan also gave another illustration of her strik ingly beautiful work in the " Peer Gynt " suite by Grieg . Mendelssohn's “ Spring Song " and " The Blue Danube " were two more dances which were exquisite and raptur ously redemanded . Another gem of the program last wech was a Bach gavotte preceded by a sarabande Between the dances the orchestra played numbers from the works of Gounod . Saint Saëns and Tschaikowsky . When Wiss Allan danced " The Vision of Salome " for the first time in New York , Saturday afternoon of week letore last she did not use the head of John , but at her exhibition last Wednesday she added this touch of realism The stage sening for this feature was very beautitul , and in going through the various scenes which depict the Ju dean maiden's delight over the grewsome trophy , Miss \ 012u showed marvelous kill , both in her facial expre sion as well as in lier gestures and the lytinio steps of her dauty fect The lighting effects last Wednesday were atked improvement over the last day when Miss Allan Sie unich To lie puture exhibitionis she will of give " The Vision of Sibone " with the perfected chie dels Muaral Qowior Jan 26 Wed.
