1919 The Call سے Irene " SALOME " MAY DANCE AT SAN MATEO FESTIVAL 9 1909 Town Trustees Decide Contor tion May Be Presented SAN MATEO , June 8 .--- Maurice Pow ers , Charles M. Morse , Myles J. Con way , William H. Toepke and J. E. Casey , members of the town council , have said the last word . In the fu ture , anyone can dance " Salome in San Mateo if the performance is art istio enough , tor , staid members of va rious churches though many of then are , the trustees refused to consider a protest against the " Salome " , dance to be held here during carnival week . P. W. d'Arcy raised the question as to the morality of the historic and sinuous contortion through a com munication in which he stated that he hoped the council would not stand for the " Salome " act on the " Happy Hike . " Mayor Powers ordered the d'Arcy protest filed , but not before Trustee Conway had proposed a personal in vestigation of the dance , previous to the carnival , by a committee of one .
