Note re : Mrs. Flora Drummond The Times - January 17 1908 p.12e Mrs. Drummond , with Mrs. Pankhurst one of the leade 5s of the Women's Social and Political Union was arrested with a group of women on this date , just [ 12 were in graur outside Downing Street . The Cabinet was assembling to decide what should be put in the Speech from the Throne , and this group shouted " Votes for Women " etc. , as Cabinet members arrived at Do wning Street . Some of the women chained themselves to the railings when Police urged them to disperse . While the Police were de taching these women , Mrs. Drummond mounted the steps to No. 10 and pulled a knob , thinking it was a bell . Her action released a catch and the door opened , whereupon Mrs. Drummond walked into the hallway and shouted " Votes for Women . " She got as far as the swing doors which open in tot the lobby before she was turned back . The astonished attendent remonstrated with her and as she continued to shout he attempted to remove her . Some police officers went to his assistance and after some trouble the lady was ejected . In the struggle one of thw ladies outside the house was knocked down , and there were shouts of " shame " mingled with " Votes for Women . " All done in good fun , ofcourse .
