Miss Maud Gwendolen Allan a native of San Francisco , studied piano at the Royal Academic School for Music in Berlin . She afterwards travelled to galleries and museums , particularly in Italy , in order to study life - like works of art which expressed the rhythm and flow of the body in movement . As a child she received and practical and theoretical education in the principles of body strength and beauty from teachers of the so - called americam Delsarte School . From this Miss Allan developed the Delsarte System of calisthenics into an individual aesthetic dance ' according to the rhythms of classic and romantic music . In Vienna in 1903 she performed her " Muscial Life - like Impressions " for the first time . She also performed she prese with great success in Belgium ( Brussells and Lüttich ) and Germany ( Elberfeld , Hamburg , Berlin etc. ) . Her debut in Berlin in the winter of 1905 was at the invitation of the Berlin Artists Association . Miss Allan gave a performance on February 21st of this year in Berlin to a private audience , and on March 20th in Hamburg to the public , both of which were well received . 1906 The Leipzig Illustrated paper , issue 3270 of this year , published her picture to an accompanying text . Miss Allan intends to open a school for calisthenics in Berlin .
