PAINTING DIVISION STAFF Crafts Division Section 1 WEAVING AND DESIGN WILLIAM TOWNSEND Head of the Banff School Painting Division Member of the London Group . Reader in Fine Art in the Uni versity of London , teaching at the Slade School . This is his seventh Summer Session at Banff . In 1962/63 was Visit ing Professor in the Department of Fine Art of the University of Alberta / Ed . monton . In 1964 he toured Canada as a one - man jury to select the Sixth Bi ennial of Canadian Painting for the National Gallery of Canada . His work is included in the Tate Gallery , Arts Council , Ministry of Works and many other public collections in England ; The National Gallery of Canada ; National Gallery of Victoria , Melbourne ; Auck land , New Zealand ; and elsewhere . Has held five one - man exhibitions in Lon don and two in Canada . NIKOLA BJELAJAC Born in Milwaukee , Wis . B.S. ( Art Edu cation ) Milwaukee State Teachers ' Col lege ; M.S. ( Art Education ) University of Wisconsin . Taught Art Education ( Drawing and Painting ) University of Saskatchewan 1947-51 . Taught Etching and Lithography at Summer School of Painting , Saugatuck , Michigan 1946-51 . Studied art in Mexico 1951-55 . Taught at University of Manitoba and at the University of Manitoba School of Art . Presently on the staff of the Forum Art Institute , Winnipeg , Manitoba . ALTERNATE YEARS NOT OFFERED IN 1966 Section 11 CERAMICS 30 hours per week - instruction and workshop . 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday . Instructor : Steve Repa . Tuition fee $ 85.00 . This course is intended to give the student a know ledge of the fundamentals of pottery in its many aspects . Besides an intensive training on the potter's wheel , it includes instruction and practice in the preparation of clay ; building of coil and free form pieces ; ceramic sculpture ; basic glaze chemistry and glazing techniques ; various methods of decoration ; and stacking and firing of the kiln . Under guidance , the student is given an understand ing of materials and an opportunity to develop a creative feeling for them . If necessary , the class will be divided into sections depending on experience and knowledge . FRANCOISE ANDRE Graduate with distinction of Brussels Academie des Beaux Arts , and of the Antwerp Institut National Superieur des Beaux Arts . In 1949 she received the Belgian National Scholarship to study in Paris at the Ecole National Super ieur Des Arts Decoratifs , where she worked with Marcel Gromaire . Has exhibited extensively and is represented in private collections and museums in Canada and the U.S. CHARLES STEGEMAN Admitted to the Academy of Fine Arts in the Hague in 1945. Studied at the Brussels Academie des Beaux Arts 1946-48 and on scholarship at the Insti tut National Superieur des Beaux Arts in Antwerp . Has taught at the Banff school on several previous occasions and was appointed Artist in Residence at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1962 , joining the permanent staff as Assistant Professor in 1963. Has ex hibited extensively and is represented in private collections and museums in Canada and the U.S. Glazing techniques are important part of Ceramics Course . time for sculpture too . DOUGLAS D. BARRY Honour graduate , Ontario College of Art , 1948. Has taught for the Depart ment of Art and the Department of Ex tension , University of Alberta , Edmon ton , since 1949. Taught art in Yellow knife and Hay River , North West Terri tories ; and in Dawson City , Yukon Ter ritory . At present head of the Exten sion Program in Art , Edmonton . Recent work has been in Portrait , Landscape and Liturgical Arts . Media includes oil , acrylic , mosaic , bronze and architectural reliefs . Represented in Gallery and pri vate collections . HARRY WOHLFARTH Assistant Professor of Art , Department of Extension , University of Alberta . Studied at the Art Academy of Dresden and worked in Salzburg under Oskar Kokoschka . Member of the German Academy in Bonn . Received the dis tinction of Doctoris Academiae in 1962 from the Roman Academy of Arts and Sciences . A member of the U.S. National Committee on Art Edu cation , he has lectured as guest pro fessor at the Art Academies of Munich and Dusseldorf and at the Universities of Berlin , Munich and Bonn . CRAFTS DIVISION STAFF STEVE REPA Graduate of the Winnipeg School of Art where he also taught Ceramics and Design . Director of Brandon Allied Art Centre 1962-63 . Has lectured on Pottery and Sculpture throughout Manitoba and taught at the Internation al Peace Gardens , North Dakota in the summer of 1965. Has exhibited many shows throughout Canada and has had several one - man exhibitions . Presently on the staff of the Forum Art Institute , Winnipeg , Manitoba . Fresh fall of snow adds to beauty of the Valley ( Banff School in foreground ) . LEROY JENSEN First studied painting in Japan where he was brought up . Extensive study abroad including three years at the Royal Academy of Art , Copenhagen and two years in Paris with André L'Hote . Taught for three years as an extension lecturer in painting , Univer sity of British Columbia . Now painting and teaching in Kelowna , B.C. , where he has his own studio . Has exhibited in most of the larger exhibitions across Canada , also in New York and Seattle . Has had a number of one - man shows in Vancouver and throughout the in terior of British Columbia . DORIS LIVINGSTONE Born in Banff , she started as a student in the Banff School of Fine Arts Paint ing Division when she was thirteen . After three summers at the School she continued her studies in England . B.A. and B.Ed. , University of Alberta . M.Ed. ( Art Education ) University of British Columbia . Taught in Calgary and Ed monton High Schools and is now Assis tant Professor in the Art Department , Faculty of Education , University of British Columbia . 46 47
